Wayne A. Opdenbrouw
Investigator
Wayne retired as a Trooper from the Connecticut State Police in 2020 after a twenty-year career. He was assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Bureau of Investigations and Enforcement in 2006 as a Detective. From November 2008 until his retirement, Wayne was a Certified Accelerant Detection Canine Handler, working numerous scenes with his assigned K-9’s “Elway” and “Sprite.”
He holds numerous degrees from the University of New Haven, including Arson Investigation with a minor in Criminal Justice, Fire Science Administration, Fire and Occupational Safety, and Criminal Justice -Law Enforcement Administration. Wayne is a Certified Fire Investigator with the International Association of Arson Investigators and is a NAFI Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator. He has attended courses in advanced fire investigation at the National Fire Academy in Maryland and has provided instruction for the State of Connecticut Pre-Certification Classes. He has also provided fire origin and cause expert witness testimony at criminal trials and given numerous depositions. Wayne currently works Full-Time as a Firefighter/Paramedic, while also working as Deputy Fire Marshal for the Town of South Windsor, CT.
He is the Secretary of the CT International Association of Arson Investigators Chapter and is also a member of the Windham County Fire Marshal’s Association, and past Secretary of the New London County Fire Marshal’s Association.
Wayne joined Acacia Investigations in 2021. He is a thorough investigator and is well respected in the fire investigation field. Acacia welcomes Wayne as our “newest” (15 years experience) investigator.
